Movement in the soil had been detected prior to the landslide in Erzincan, prompting the evacuation of workers from the area

Before the landslide hit the gold mine in Erzincan, soil movement had been detected, prompting the evacuation of workers. Unfortunately, three supervisors inspecting the site were caught in the landslide. Reports suggest that five workers were trapped inside a container, while another was stuck in his truck.

Race against time

Search and rescue efforts have been underway for the nine workers trapped underground. However, no positive developments have been reported yet.

“We believe that five of the workers we are looking for are in or next to the container, three are in the vehicle in the same area, and the other driver is in a truck in a different area,” Minister of Internal Affairs Ali Yerlikaya said.

Precautions were taken

As the world awaits positive updates, new details regarding the incident are emerging.

According to reports by Fevzi Kızılkoyun and Aysel Alp from Hürriyet, cracks in the upper layer of the soil were observed at 9 a.m. on the morning of the tragedy. Authorities were promptly notified, leading to the evacuation of all workers. Subsequently, three field supervisors went to inspect the area and became trapped under the soil while still in their vehicle.

7 people in custody

An investigation into the mine incident has been initiated. Yesterday, initially three individuals were detained, followed by four more, in connection with the ongoing investigation. Seven people are currently being investigated in relation to the incident.
