Social media reportedly restricted in Türkiye amid political developments

Users across Türkiye experienced widespread access issues on major social media platforms Wednesday morning, including X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok.
The disruptions occurred as Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu and dozens of others were reportedly detained in events described by opposition figures. However, there is no official statement on the nature of the restrictions.
Widespread social media disruptions reported
Starting early Wednesday, users in Türkiye reported difficulties accessing social media platforms, with some unable to log in or experiencing errors while refreshing feeds, posting content, or viewing stories. While the restrictions appeared to be concentrated in Istanbul, there has been no official government statement on the matter.
Instagram users encountered issues with profile loading and story sharing, while X and YouTube users faced connection failures and slow loading times. Some reported being entirely unable to access their accounts.
NetBlocks confirmed the access restrictions.

No official statement on access issues
Although authorities have not confirmed any deliberate restriction, live internet metrics indicate a throttling of bandwidth affecting multiple social media platforms.
