Türkiye is reportedly preparing to deliver a batch of advanced Bayraktar Akinci unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) to Somalia on Tuesday as part of a strategic effort to strengthen Somalia’s defense capabilities against al-Shabab terrorist organization.

These drones, known for their superior versatility and firepower compared to the TB-2 models, will play a crucial role in supporting the Somali National Army’s offensive against terrorist groups.

Strengthening Somalia’s counterterrorism operations

The deployment of the Bayraktar Akinci drones is aimed at bolstering Somalia’s efforts to curb the rapid expansion of al-Shabab, which has been a significant threat to regional stability.

With increasing attacks by the group, Somalia’s military is seeking to enhance its counterterrorism capabilities to reclaim territory controlled by the militants and secure critical regions from further insurgent activities.
