Türkiye to lead NATO Allied Reaction Force Amphibious Task Group for first time

Türkiye will take over the NATO Allied Reaction Force Amphibious Task Group Command and Landing Forces Command for the first time from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026, according to a statement from the Ministry of National Defense (MoD).
The move marks a significant step in Türkiye’s NATO commitments, as the country assumes leadership of these crucial military roles within the alliance.
The Amphibious Task Group and Landing Forces Command will oversee several critical operations aimed at bolstering NATO’s collective defense capabilities.
Türkiye’s role in NATO defense
In a statement released by the Turkish MoD, the country’s participation in NATO operations was emphasized, highlighting the strategic importance of these leadership positions.
From March 24 to April 4, 2025, Türkiye’s Amphibious Task Group and Landing Force will participate in the Dynamic Mariner/FLOTEX-25 Exercise alongside NATO forces in Spain.
Turkish naval units, including the TCG Sancaktar, TCG Bayraktar, TCG Orucreis, and TCG Gaziantep, will be engaged in this important military drill.
Vice Admiral Ibrahim Ozdem Kocer, the Deputy Commander of the Turkish Navy, oversaw the deployment of these naval units as they left the Leventler/Foca Port for the exercise, ensuring Türkiye’s active contribution to NATO’s collective readiness.
