The United States has initiated “decisive and powerful military action” against Yemen’s Houthi rebels, President Donald Trump announced on Saturday.

“We will use overwhelming lethal force until we have achieved our objective,” Trump stated in a social media post, accusing the Iran-backed Houthi movement of threatening Red Sea shipping.

Earlier in March, the U.S. State Department designated Yemen’s Houthi group, officially known as Ansar Allah, as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO). Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the decision, stating it fulfills a promise made by President Donald Trump shortly after taking office.
