Militants hold 450 train passengers hostage in Pakistan’s Balochistan

Armed militants in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province have taken over 450 train passengers hostage following an attack on Tuesday. The assault also left the train driver wounded.
The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the incident, stating that gunmen bombed the railway track before taking control of the train in the remote Sibi district.
Train held up in remote mountainous region
“More than 450 passengers aboard are being held hostage by the gunmen,” said Muhammad Kashif, a senior railway official in Quetta, the provincial capital. A senior police officer, speaking under anonymity, confirmed the train’s location near a tunnel surrounded by mountains, making it an ideal area for militants to hide and strategize attacks.
As the situation escalates, an emergency has been declared in surrounding hospitals, according to the police official. Efforts are underway to free the hostages and stabilize the situation.
