Trump applauds DeSantis’ choice to withdraw from race

Former President Donald Trump is happy that Ron DeSantis has dropped out of the presidential race in his favor

Former U.S. President Donald Trump put aside months of criticism he mounted on Ron DeSantis Sunday night, as he celebrated his former Republican rival’s endorsement after the Florida governor suspended his presidential campaign.  

“I want to express my gratitude to Ron and congratulate him on his excellent work,” Trump said at the beginning of his speech. “He was very gracious in his endorsement of me, and I appreciate that. I eagerly anticipate collaborating with Ron.”

Trump also lauded DeSantis as “an outstanding individual.” 

Earlier in the day, DeSantis announced via video that he would be suspending his campaign just two days before New Hampshire’s first-in-the-nation GOP primary.

However, despite Trump’s evident pleasure at the rally, DeSantis’ endorsement was not the most enthusiastic. 

“It’s evident to me that a majority of Republican primary voters are inclined to give Donald Trump another opportunity,” DeSantis remarked, offering a straightforward analysis with a forced smile.
