Türkiye detains 87 irregular migrants in Canakkale and Edirne

Security forces in Türkiye apprehended a total of 87 irregular migrants in separate operations conducted in Canakkale and Edirne as part of efforts to combat illegal migration.

72 migrants caught in Canakkale attempting to cross to Lesbos

In Canakkale’s Ayvacik district, 72 irregular migrants attempting to cross illegally to the Greek island of Lesbos were intercepted by gendarmerie teams. During the operation, one suspect accused of migrant smuggling was also detained.

The migrants were transferred to the Ayvacik Migration Reception and Transfer Center following processing at the gendarmerie station, while the detained suspect remains under investigation.

15 irregular migrants detained in Edirne

Meanwhile, in Edirne, security forces conducting inspections to prevent illegal migration detained 15 irregular migrants of Egyptian, Afghan and Pakistani origin.

The migrants were handed over to the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management after necessary procedures.
