Turkish tennis player Zeynep Sonmez climbs to career-high WTA ranking of 77th

Turkish tennis player Zeynep Sonmez has climbed to a career-best world ranking of 77th in the latest Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings, marking a significant milestone in her professional career.
The 22-year-old Istanbul native jumped 11 spots in the weekly updated WTA rankings following her quarter-final appearance at the WTA 500 Merida Open tournament last week.
Sonmez, who is coached by Izo Zunic, has accumulated $154,265 in prize money so far this year with a 6-7 win-loss record in 2025.
Her career statistics show one singles title with career earnings of $632,640 and an overall record of 211 wins against 136 losses.
The rising Turkish star has shown a promising form in recent tournaments. At the Merida Open in Akron, she reached the quarterfinals before losing to E. Navarro.
Earlier tournament results show victories against M. Linette in the Round of 16 and M. Sakkari in the Round of 32 at the same event.
Sonmez has also competed at other significant tournaments this season, including the Qatar TotalEnergies Open 2025 and the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open.
Standing at 170 centimeters (66.9 inches) tall, Sonmez continues to make strides in her professional tennis career as one of Türkiye’s most promising talents on the international tennis circuit.
