Former Zorlu Holding CEO Cem Koksal, who was detained as part of an investigation launched against him for allegedly instructing employees not to celebrate Ramadan, has been released under judicial control of a travel ban Sunday.

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office is continuing its investigation into Koksal on charges of “obstructing the freedom of belief, thought, and expression,” which was initiated ex officio.

After providing Koksal’s statement to the prosecutor’s office, he was referred to the court on duty with a request for judicial control.

The court ruled for his release under the condition of a travel ban.

Stepped down from CEO role

An investigation into Koksal, former CEO of Zorlu Holding, was initiated ex officio following reports in various social media outlets.

The investigation concerns allegations that Koksal sent an email instructing employees not to celebrate Ramadan, which is being examined under charges of “obstructing the freedom of belief, thought, and expression.”

Koksal was detained on Saturday as per the prosecutor’s office’s directive.

Meanwhile, Zorlu Holding’s Board of Directors announced that Koksal resigned from his position as CEO on the same day.
