Türkiye, UK officials to discuss Syria’s future in Ankara

Türkiye and the United Kingdom will hold consultations on Syria Monday in Ankara, focusing on regional security and reconstruction efforts.
The talks will be led by Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Nuh Yilmaz and U.K. Minister of State for the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan, Hamish Falconer, according to diplomatic sources.
The consultations are expected to cover Syria and other regional issues of mutual concern, with officials exchanging views on shared priorities.
Deputy Minister Yilmaz is anticipated to convey Türkiye’s perspectives and expectations regarding Syria’s security, stability, and economic situation during the discussions.
The talks are expected to emphasize the importance of international support for the Syrian government’s steps toward establishing national reconciliation within a central government framework.
Officials will also focus on the necessity of unconditionally lifting sanctions completely to facilitate Syria’s reconstruction and economic development.
During the consultations, both sides are expected to stress that there is no place for terrorism in Syria’s future. The discussions will likely highlight the need to stop Israel’s actions that openly violate and threaten Syria’s sovereignty.
