The train-mixer collision in Cerkezkoy prompts an emergency response and evacuation of all 80 passengers
A passenger train en route from Istanbul to Sofia collided with a concrete mixer at a level crossing in Cerkezkoy, Tekirdag, causing the evacuation of approximately 80 passengers – including foreign tourists.
The impact of the collision severely damaged the train’s engine and injured the cement truck’s driver.
Emergency services, including health personnel, gendarmerie, fire brigade and rescue teams were dispatched to the scene following the incident.
The injured driver received immediate medical attention on-site before being transferred to a private hospital.
Passengers aboard the train were safely evacuated to the platform.
Reports confirmed that none of the passengers sustained injuries and that their health conditions were satisfactory.
The damaged train engine was replaced after the accident. The train was moved to the station for further reparation while the concrete mixer was removed from the tracks with the help of a crane.
The investigation to determine the cause of the incident is underway. However, the temporary closure of the level crossing caused a traffic disruption, which was later reopened for public transport.
