FM Fidan to attend Ukraine Conference in London

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will represent Türkiye at a high-level conference on Ukraine in London on March 2, 2025, according to an official statement.
The meeting, hosted by U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, will bring together top officials from European nations, NATO, and the European Union to discuss the latest developments in the Russia-Ukraine war and European security.
Türkiye’s diplomatic efforts in Ukraine intensify
Türkiye has increased its diplomatic engagement to support efforts toward ending the Russia-Ukraine war.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan recently met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Türkiye on Feb. 18, 2025, as part of these intensified efforts.
Fidan has also held multiple discussions with key stakeholders in recent weeks:
- He met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Feb. 20, 2025, at the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Johannesburg and again on Feb. 24 in Ankara.
- On the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference (Feb. 14-16), he engaged with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Trump’s Special Representative for Russia and Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, to discuss the ongoing conflict.

Key objectives for Türkiye at London meeting
During the conference, Fidan is expected to:
- Exchange views on President Donald Trump’s latest negotiation-focused initiative regarding the war.
- Reaffirm Türkiye’s support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence.
- Highlight Türkiye’s commitment to facilitating peace talks, as it did in March 2022, when it hosted direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.
- Advocate for long-term regional stability, economic prosperity, and security in post-war discussions.

International participation and context
The London conference follows a series of high-profile international meetings aimed at reassessing Europe’s approach to the war.
The gathering will include representatives from Ukraine, Germany, France, Italy, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Finland, Sweden, the Czech Republic, and Romania, along with NATO and EU officials.
The event comes amid renewed diplomatic efforts following Trump’s direct engagement with Russian and Ukrainian leaders on Feb. 12, 2025, and subsequent U.S.-Russia talks in Riyadh on Feb. 18.
European nations, including France and Germany, have also convened multiple high-level meetings in recent weeks to coordinate their stance on the conflict.
