Türkiye’s defense technology firm Havelsan announced that its “digital soldier” system, Cengaver, will soon be deployed for use by security forces, according to General Manager Mehmet Akif Nacar.

Speaking to reporters after an event at Trakya University, Nacar emphasized Havelsan’s significant role in defense technology, particularly in command and control systems and training simulations.

“We develop technologies for defense and also provide critical solutions for civilian institutions,” he said, referencing Havelsan’s autonomous systems such as KOVAN and ODAK.

Nacar highlighted that Havelsan has been actively working on digital unit technologies, including the command and control of unmanned ground, sea, and air vehicles through a single interface. One of these developments is the Cengaver system, which integrates advanced sensor-based communication and software to enhance situational awareness for military personnel.

“In the Cengaver system, we have designed a unified operational environment where individual soldiers, using onboard sensors, can communicate seamlessly with other team members and unmanned systems,” Nacar explained.

He added that the system is currently in its final stages of development and will soon be introduced to relevant institutions for deployment.

Enhancing operational awareness for military teams

Cengaver has been developed to improve both intra-team communication and environmental situational awareness in military operations.

The system consists of various wearable sub-systems designed to equip soldiers with real-time data sharing capabilities, improving their tactical decision-making on the field.

“Our goal is to bring Türkiye’s defense industry to even higher levels with innovative solutions like Cengaver,” Nacar stated.

Havelsan’s contribution to defense training and simulation

During his visit, Nacar also met with university students and shared insights from his career, recalling his time as a graduate of Trakya University’s Computer Engineering Department. He emphasized the importance of continuous learning and career planning while advising students to integrate national values into their professional aspirations.

“Our generation didn’t have many role models, but now students have access to vast information and resources,” he said. “What’s important is to prepare for the future and enhance one’s capabilities. Confidence and preparation will allow you to succeed in any field.”

Nacar elaborated on Havelsan’s role in defense technology, stating that while the company primarily focuses on software solutions, it also possesses the capability to design and manufacture hardware and mechanical systems when needed.

Türkiye’s leadership in flight simulators

One of Havelsan’s flagship technologies is its flight simulator systems, which are crucial for pilot training. “A flight simulator is as complex to develop as an actual aircraft,” Nacar explained, noting that these systems must replicate real-life scenarios, from engine failures to bird strikes, ensuring pilots are fully prepared for any situation.

Havelsan is Türkiye’s sole flight simulator manufacturer and is among the leading global companies in this field. “We have delivered simulation systems for all types of military aircraft and helicopters, including passenger planes,” he stated.

“Our technology is being exported worldwide, including to countries like South Korea and India,” Nacar noted. “Despite India’s reputation in software, they rely on Havelsan for Airbus passenger aircraft simulators. We are proud to export our defense technologies globally.”
