Spanish media blasts Arda Guler for weak performance against Real Sociedad

Real Madrid faced Real Sociedad in the Copa del Rey semifinal, with Turkish international Arda Guler starting in the lineup on Thursday.
Despite Real Madrid securing a 1-0 victory with a goal from Endrick in the 19th minute, Spanish media criticized Arda Guler’s “weak performance” in the game.
The second leg will be played on April 1 at Santiago Bernabeu.
Playing 84 minutes, Guler had 42 touches, completed 21 of 26 passes, took one shot, and entered the opponent’s box once. He also engaged in eight duels, winning five.
Ancelotti: Arda worked very well
After the match, Carlo Ancelotti praised Guler, saying: “Arda worked very well in his position. He helped the team defensively, and we should be happy because it was a tough and competitive match.”

‘Guler missed a golden opportunity’
Despite Ancelotti’s praise, Spanish media and Real Madrid fans criticized Guler’s performance, arguing he failed to capitalize on his chance.
- MARCA: “No one doubts his quality, but this season was expected to be his breakthrough, and he is not delivering. He worked hard but showed very little. Madrid lacked one of its best players today.”
- AS: “Endrick kicked the door open, while Guler left Anoeta quietly. Whether there’s an ‘Arda case’ or not, the Turkish player missed a golden opportunity.”
- MUNDO DEPORTIVO: “He had some good moments but very few. He couldn’t take advantage of the chance given by Ancelotti.”
