Former Commodity Futures Trading Commission COO Mike Gill critically wounded in a fatal carjacking spree in Washington, D.C.

Mike Gill, a former federal official in the Trump administration, is in critical condition after a carjacking attempt in Washington, D.C.

Gill served as the chief operating officer of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission during President Donald Trump’s tenure. Unfortunately, he was the first victim in a string of violent carjacking incidents across D.C. and suburban Maryland.

His family confirmed to Fox5 Washington DC that the incident occurred in the 900 block of K Street NW around 5:45 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 29, in the country’s capital.

Eyewitness Yolanda Douglas described the scene, saying she saw Gill injured and bleeding on the pavement. A woman, presumably Gill’s wife, rushed out of a nearby building, frantically crying out that he was her husband.

Tragically, the suspect not only shot Gill but also committed additional carjackings and opened fire on occupied police vehicles. The crime spree ended when law enforcement officers confronted the suspect in Prince George’s County, Maryland, and shot him dead.

Gill’s family has described him as an “amazing husband, father, friend, and colleague” with a remarkable sense of humor and a talent for bringing people together. The motive behind the carjacking spree remains under investigation, with officials suggesting it may be related to the suspect’s mental state.
