Israeli military’s tunnel flooding strategy in Gaza raises humanitarian concerns amid escalating conflict

In a recent escalation of the ongoing conflict in Gaza, the Israeli military has initiated the flooding of tunnels, which they claim feeds Hamas’ network.

This operation is part of a broader strategy to neutralize what Israel describes as a significant threat from the underground infrastructure used by Hamas militants.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza is deteriorating rapidly, with the United Nations warning about the potential “collapse of the humanitarian system” in the territory.

A resident of Gaza reflected on the dire conditions and expressed the plight of civilians while speaking to Agence France-Presse (AFP). “We’re out in the cold, left to fend for ourselves, with no tents and nothing to survive on,” she said.

As the conflict intensifies, the U.N. has stressed the critical role of UNRWA in providing aid and services to the Palestinian population.

The organization’s funding crisis has been exacerbated by allegations of staff involvement in attacks, leading key donor countries to withhold support.

The conflict has taken a heavy toll, especially on the residents of Gaza.

The Israeli military’s recent strategy of tunnel flooding has raised concerns over potential damage to Gaza’s already fragile infrastructure and the safety of civilians and hostages in the region.
