US F-16 crashes into South Korean Sea, pilot safely ejects

A U.S. Air Force pilot successfully ejected from an F-16 fighter jet that went down into the waters off the southwestern coast of South Korea on Wednesday, making it the second crash of its kind in less than two months

A U.S. Air Force pilot ejected safely from an F-16 fighter jet that crashed into the sea off South Korea’s southwestern coast on Wednesday, marking the second such crash in less than two months. 

The pilot, who has not been identified, was conscious and taken to a medical facility for evaluation, according to a statement from the U.S. 8th Fighter Wing. The cause of the crash, which occurred near the port city of Seosan, is under investigation. There were no immediate reports of casualties or property damage. 

The 8th Fighter Wing, which consists of two F-16 squadrons, had experienced a similar F-16 crash in December. This incident follows a Nov. 29 crash of a U.S. Air Force Osprey aircraft off Japan’s coast, which resulted in the deaths of all eight people on board.
