The 41st Turkish Day Parade, initiated in 1981 following the assassination of Turkish diplomats by the Armenian terror group ASALA, commenced with a flag-raising ceremony.

As part of the parade, the “Century of Türkiye Exhibition” is being hosted at the Turkevi (Turkish House) in New York City. The exhibition features three-dimensional projections showcasing Türkiye’s achievements over the past century.

On Saturday, the parade commenced on Madison Avenue and 38th Street, concluding at Madison Square Park.

Along the parade route, the janissary band of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism performed renditions of Ottoman Turkish music, adding to the cultural ambiance of the event.

May 19, 1919, marks the day Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, later the founder of the Republic of Türkiye, arrived in Samsun from Istanbul to initiate the war that ultimately led to Türkiye’s modernization.

In 1938, Ataturk designated May 19 as Youth and Sports Day, a national holiday celebrating Turkish youth with sporting and cultural activities held nationwide.
