Canadians push Trudeau to strip Elon Musk’s citizenship

A petition calling for the revocation of Elon Musk’s Canadian citizenship has gained significant traction, with over 52,100 Canadians signing the online initiative ahead of its June 20 presentation to the House of Commons.
The petition, sponsored by New Democratic Party MP Charlie Angus and initiated by British Columbia resident Qualia Reed, argues that the billionaire entrepreneur “has engaged in activities that go against the national interest of Canada.”
Musk, who acquired his Canadian citizenship through his Saskatchewan-born mother, currently holds dual citizenship with Canada. Born in South Africa, he has become a controversial figure in Canadian politics, with petitioners claiming he “has used his wealth and power to influence our elections.”
The document specifically characterizes Musk as “a key lieutenant of US President Donald Trump” and alleges he is “a member of a foreign government that is attempting to erase Canadian sovereignty.”
“We, the undersigned, citizens of Canada, call upon the Prime Minister to revoke Elon Musk’s dual citizenship status, and revoke his Canadian passport effective immediately,” the petition states.
While the petition will be presented to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government, there has been no indication whether officials will consider the request to strip Musk of his citizenship.
