Fenerbahce’s head coach Jose Mourinho could be set for a dramatic and vengeful path in the UEFA Europa League, potentially facing three of his former clubs if the Turkish side progresses through the rounds.

Fenerbahce secured their spot in the Round of 16 with a 3-0 win at home and a 2-2 draw away against Anderlecht. After the draw on February 21, the Turkish team is set to face Rangers in the next round. Should Fenerbahce overcome Rangers, Mourinho’s potential route to the final could involve confrontations with his former clubs, starting with Roma in the quarter-finals.

Potential clash with Roma

Mourinho, who left Roma in January 2024 under contentious circumstances, would relish a chance for revenge against his former side. If Roma and Fenerbahce both advance, they would meet in the quarter-finals, adding an intriguing subplot to the tie, as Mourinho looks to settle unfinished business with his former team.

Plot thickens with Manchester United in semi-finals

The plot thickens further as Fenerbahce could face Manchester United in the semi-finals. Mourinho had a notable tenure at United from 2016-2018, winning the Europa League in 2017. His departure from the club was on less-than-ideal terms, making this potential encounter even more charged.

Clash with Tottenham in finals?

Finally, a final showdown in Bilbao could see Mourinho square off against his third former club, Tottenham. The possibility of facing Spurs in the ultimate grudge match would add a fitting climax to what could be Mourinho’s remarkable return tour through Europe’s elite clubs.

Mourinho has previously won the Europa League with Manchester United in 2017 and the Conference League with Roma in 2022. Should Fenerbahce go all the way, Mourinho would be looking to complete his collection of major European trophies, making this journey all the more personal.
