42 Anatolian artifacts returned from UK, US unveiled

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism showcased 42 illegally smuggled artifacts, seized in the U.K. and the U.S., now returned to Türkiye at the Antalya Archaeological Museum

Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy attended the presentation ceremony of 42 historical artifacts repatriated from the U.S. and the U.K. held in Antalya.

Ersoy emphasized ongoing efforts to combat cultural asset smuggling and the successful return of illegally acquired artifacts to their rightful countries.

The exhibition includes artifacts such as heads portraying the youthful and mature features of the Roman Emperor Caracalla from the ancient city of Boubon in Burdur, as well as a bronze female bust and a male mask.

The showcased artifacts feature the 6,000-year-old heads of Kilia idols and a monumental emperor statue dating back to the second century A.D., both originating from the ancient city of Boubon and recently brought from England.

During the artifact presentation, Ersoy highlighted the successful return of 42 artifacts from the U.S. and the U.K.

“We continue our efforts to prevent the smuggling of cultural heritage and ensure the repatriation of illegally acquired artifacts from market countries,” he said.
