Local police in Bellevue, a city across Lake Washington from Seattle, received a call about a military-grade rocket discovered in a resident’s garage in the U.S., BBC reported Saturday.

The incident took a surprising turn when the resident expressed interest in donating the artifact to the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force in Dayton, Ohio. 

The rocket, identified as a “Douglas AIR-2 Genie,” was designed as an air-to-air rocket during the Cold War. 

This unusual discovery sheds light on the historical context of military technology from that era, raising questions about how such artifacts find their way into private hands.
 
The AIR-2 Genie rocket was part of the U.S. military’s strategy during the Cold War to counter the Soviet Union’s new jet bomber squadrons. 

Thousands of these rockets were produced between the 1950s and 1980s, acting as a deterrent rather than used in combat.
