Senior faculty member wounded in Turkish Selcuk University campus shooting

A student at Selcuk University shot and wounded a senior faculty member before attempting suicide on Monday, according to university officials.
The incident occurred around 3 p.m. local time at the Faculty of Health Sciences, where student Bestami Serdar E. opened fire on Dr. Mujdat Yesildal, the vice dean of the faculty. Both the student and Dr. Yesildal were rushed to the university’s medical faculty hospital for treatment.
Multiple police units and emergency medical teams responded to the scene after the shooting was reported. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, authorities say.
The shooting has rattled the campus community at Selcuk University, one of central Turkey’s major public institutions of higher education, located in the city of Konya.
