TikTok has deleted 15.3 million videos in Türkiye for violating its community guidelines, according to Fatih Kafadar, Head of Government Relations and Public Policy for Türkiye and the Levant at TikTok.

He stated that 92.24% of these videos were removed before being viewed, and 91.05% were deleted within 24 hours.

Content moderation, updated guidelines

Kafadar explained that TikTok employs artificial intelligence-powered moderation systems along with expert teams to oversee content compliance.

He emphasized that the platform continuously updates its community guidelines to enhance user safety and applies these policies equally across all content.

“In Türkiye, we have introduced the ‘Family Pairing’ feature to safeguard young users’ digital security. This tool allows parents to monitor screen time, messaging, and content filtering settings,” Kafadar said.

He also highlighted that TikTok has restricted daily screen time to 60 minutes for users aged 13-17 to ensure a safer online experience.

TikTok’s commitment to digital safety

Kafadar reiterated TikTok remains committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and authentic environment for its global community.

He noted that the company has made significant investments in content moderation and security measures to prevent potential risks and harmful content.

“Our Community Guidelines are designed to provide a safe and positive experience, ensuring compliance for all users and content. The platform proactively updates its policies to address emerging threats,” he said.

Kafadar also stressed that TikTok prioritizes investments in digital safety and remains dedicated to enhancing platform security.

Protecting young users with family pairing

TikTok has implemented additional measures to protect younger users. Kafadar stated that the ‘Family Pairing’ feature enables parents to link their accounts with their children’s, granting them control over screen time limits, privacy settings, and interaction permissions.

He also emphasized that beauty filters altering physical appearance are now restricted to users under 18.

TikTok continues to test AI-driven age verification technologies and automated systems to detect and prevent false age declarations.

“In the first half of 2024, TikTok globally removed 41.8 million accounts suspected to belong to users under 13. To provide a safer experience for 13-17-year-olds, we are working to expand the usage of the ‘Family Pairing’ feature,” Kafadar said.
