The Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) remain committed to ensuring national security and combating terrorism while actively contributing to NATO‘s defense strategies, according to a statement by the Ministry of National Defense (MoD).

Türkiye’s continued fight against terrorism

Speaking at a press briefing, MoD Press and Public Relations Advisor Rear Admiral Zeki Akturk emphasized Türkiye’s ongoing efforts to safeguard national security and border protection.

“The Turkish Armed Forces will continue their counterterrorism efforts with determination, ensuring the safety of the country and its people,” Akturk said.

Concerns over Israel’s actions in Gaza

Akturk also addressed concerns over Israel’s ongoing actions in Gaza, accusing the country of violating international law. “Israel continues its violations of international law, disregarding peace and cease-fire efforts,” he stated.

He condemned the forced displacement of Palestinians and stressed the necessity of a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders.

“The oppression faced by Palestinians, who are being subjected to baseless and legally unfounded coercion to leave their homeland, must end immediately,” Akturk added.

Türkiye’s role in NATO and defense cooperation

Marking Türkiye’s 73rd year as a NATO member on Feb. 18, Akturk reaffirmed the country’s commitment to the alliance. “Türkiye remains an active, constructive, and respected member of NATO, sharing its values and responsibilities,” he noted.

Akturk highlighted Türkiye’s participation in the NATO Defense Ministers’ Meeting in Brussels on Feb. 12-13, where its delegation emphasized the country’s continued support for the alliance’s defense and deterrence initiatives.

“Our NATO Permanent Representative and the Turkish Military Representative (TMR) have participated in discussions on strengthening NATO’s defense posture. Türkiye’s contributions to the alliance’s command and force structure have been reiterated,” Akturk stated.
