Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD announced plans to hold discussions with Italian auto parts suppliers next week regarding potential sourcing for its production facilities in Türkiye and Hungary, which will serve the European market.
BYD expanding production in Europe
BYD is set to open a new facility in Hungary in October, while another plant in Türkiye is expected to commence production in March 2026. The company aims to strengthen its local supply chain as it expands its presence in Europe.
Alfredo Altavilla, BYD’s special advisor for Europe, emphasized that opening two separate plants within such a short period highlights the company’s strategic approach to production and its confidence in regional suppliers.

Italian suppliers at center of discussions
Altavilla noted that Italian auto parts manufacturers were among the first invited to discussions due to their expertise and established partnerships with premium German automotive brands.
“The high capabilities of Italian suppliers and their experience in working with premium brands made them a natural choice for BYD’s sourcing discussions,” Altavilla said.
He also projected that BYD’s plants in Hungary and Türkiye could reach full capacity with a combined annual production of 500,000 vehicles. This output, he added, could generate “several billion euros in revenue” for suppliers involved in the supply chain.

Industry meeting in Turin
The discussions will take place at a meeting in Turin on Feb. 20-21, bringing together representatives from approximately 300 Italian auto parts companies. BYD’s global procurement director and an official from Italy’s Ministry of Industry are also expected to attend.
