No diplomatic relations with Israel without a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, says Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia reiterated to the U.S. its stance on normalization with Israel, affirming that diplomatic ties with Israel will not be established unless an independent Palestinian state is recognized on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Added by Saudi Arabia, Israeli “aggression” on the Gaza Strip should cease, according to a statement released on Wednesday.

Discussions about formalizing ties between Israel and Saudi Arabia have been ongoing since the Saudis tacitly approved the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain establishing relations with Israel in 2020.

Saudi Arabia has halted U.S.-backed plans to normalize relations with Israel amid escalating hostilities between the Israeli military and the Palestinian group Hamas.

Israel has launched a deadly offensive on Gaza following an Oct. 7 cross-border attack by Hamas, killing at least 27,708 Palestinians and injuring 67,174 others, while nearly 1,200 Israelis are believed to have been killed in the Hamas attack.
