Erdogan to visit Malaysia, Indonesia and Pakistan, aiming for $25B in trade deals

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will embark on an official tour of Asia next week, beginning with Malaysia.

During the four-day visit, he will also travel to Indonesia and Pakistan, focusing on strengthening political and economic ties.

The visit will include discussions on bilateral relations and the signing of multiple agreements.

Why it matters:

The trip is part of Türkiye’s broader strategy to enhance trade and diplomatic partnerships in the Asia-Pacific region. By fostering economic cooperation, Türkiye aims to increase its trade volume with these countries while expanding collaboration in key industries.

Details:

  • A delegation of business leaders from sectors including construction, energy, healthcare, agriculture, tourism, digital technologies, logistics, and defense will accompany Erdogan.
  • Türkiye currently has a trade volume of approximately $5 billion with Malaysia, $1.5 billion with Indonesia, and over $1 billion with Pakistan. The goal is to increase trade with Malaysia and Indonesia to $10 billion each and with Pakistan to $5 billion.
  • Malaysia, Indonesia, and Pakistan have shown growing interest in Türkiye’s defense industry, with new cooperation agreements expected to be signed.
  • Malaysia operates Istanbul’s Sabiha Gokcen Airport and hosts around 650 Turkish residents, while approximately 300 Malaysian nationals reside in Türkiye.
