China reaffirmed its opposition to the forced displacement of Palestinians, rejecting any attempt to use Gaza as a “bargaining chip for political gains,” a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Thursday.

Beijing’s statement comes in response to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s controversial proposal to relocate Palestinians from Gaza to Egypt and Jordan—a plan widely condemned as ethnic cleansing by the Arab world and others.

Details

  • Firm support for Palestine: Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun emphasized that “Gaza belongs to the Palestinian people” and remains an “inalienable part of Palestine.”
  • Call for humanitarian aid: Guo urged the international community to prioritize humanitarian assistance and reconstruction rather than actions that “aggravate the situation.”
  • Opposition to displacement: China reiterated its stance against the forced relocation of Palestinians, calling “Palestinians governing Palestine” the only sustainable path for Gaza’s post-war future.

Background

  • Trump’s Gaza plan: President Trump recently proposed that the U.S. take control of the Gaza Strip and be responsible for clearing unexploded bombs, weapons, and debris. He also suggested that Palestinians should be relocated to new settlements in neighboring countries like Egypt and Jordan. Trump argued that this would be better for the displaced Palestinians.
  • Trump’s remarks: During a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump stated, “The U.S. will take control of Gaza, and we will take action there. We will own it and be responsible for removing all dangerous, unexploded bombs and other weapons, as well as clearing the wreckage.”
