U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly considered a plan for the United States to take control of Gaza for more than two months, according to Israeli news outlet Walla. The report, citing unnamed American officials, suggests the idea originated from Trump himself.

A source close to the former president told Walla that the concept of U.S. administration over Gaza was “Trump’s own idea.” Another American official claimed Trump introduced the proposal after concluding that “no one else had a new idea for Gaza.”

Trump’s recent remarks on Gaza have surprised even some of his advisors while resonating with Israeli far-right circles, the report stated. Only a few members of Trump’s team were aware of the statement before it was made, while an Israeli delegation reportedly left the White House briefing room in celebration following his announcement.

During his comments, Trump argued that Palestinians had no choice but to leave Gaza, describing the enclave as “completely destroyed” and “unlivable.” He added, “That is why I think people should not return to Gaza.”
