The number of electric cars in the country increased by 129.6% in 2024 compared to the previous year and reached over 183,000 units, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat).

The biggest contribution to this increase was the sales of the domestically produced electric car Togg, which exceeded the 50,000 threshold. Following the sales of the T10X in Türkiye are the three major world giants: Tesla, BMW, and BYD.

Togg’s T10X, which has managed to surpass all its competitors domestically, is undergoing preparations to begin exporting to other markets in 2025.

Togg breaking domestic records

Togg, which has been subjected to a large dosage of criticism, started to receive pre-orders for the T10X model in March 2023.

The T10X first broke records with 10,000 units being ordered in the first five hours of its online presale. Togg managed to deliver 19,583 units within 6 months, almost hitting the target of selling 20,000 units in 2023. The brand rose to become the highest-selling electric car in the Turkish market. In 2024, T10X maintained its position as the market leader with another 30,093 units hitting the roads.

Togg, which entered 2025 with total sales of 49,676 units, sold three times more vehicles than its closest electric vehicle competitor in the first month of the year. There are currently 51,246 T10X models on the streets of Türkiye.

World giants are most formidable competitor: BYD growing fast

Togg, which closed the year 2024 with a total of 30,093 sales, was followed by Tesla with 11,534 units. BMW was in second place with a total sales of 10,181 units sold. BYD, which started sales in Türkiye at the end of November 2024, managed to attract attention by receiving more than 6,000 orders in the last 40 days of the year.

BYD, which has made a name for itself as the brand that sells the most electric cars in the world on a quantity basis, is expected to be the most formidable competitor of Togg after its factory is set to open in Türkiye.

Similar to Togg, BYD, which started its life in Türkiye with great criticism, has dominated the sales of many brands in a very short time. BYD, which reached total sales of 1,015 units in January, is at an interesting point in the market ranking.
