The European Commission’s proposal to hike Schengen visa fees threatens to increase overall expenses for Euro trips, potentially burdening travelers with additional costs.

Travelers gearing up for a trip to the Schengen area may need to reconsider their budgets as the cost of obtaining Schengen visas is expected to experience a significant surge.

The Schengen area comprises 27 European member countries operating under a unified visa policy for international travel.

Citizens of these member countries benefit from a 90-day visa-free rule, allowing them to travel within the Schengen area without needing a visa. If the proposed fee increase is approved, adults may see a 12.5% surge in Schengen visa costs, rising from 80 euros ($86.24) to 90 euros, while the fee for children would increase from 40 euros to 45 euros.

The potential hike in Schengen visa fees is expected to directly impact the overall cost of international travel for citizens of the affected countries.
