Veteran Turkish basketball player Semih Erden, who played for NBA teams Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers, as well as numerous clubs in the Turkish Basketball Super League—including Fenerbahce, Besiktas, Anadolu Efes, and most recently Bursaspor—has announced his retirement at the age of 38. Semih Erden has been a professional basketball player since 2003.

In an emotional farewell message on social media, Erden described his decision as one of the most difficult yet meaningful choices of his life:

I am bidding farewell to my basketball journey, which has shaped me into who I am today and has given me strength and inspiration at every step. When I first started, my only dream was to play the game I loved. I still remember the excitement and dreams I had the moment I first stepped onto the court. Over time, I won games, and sometimes I lost, but above all, basketball taught me life itself. Every drop of sweat I shed on the court, every moment of support I received, and every challenge I faced made me stronger, more determined, and more humble.

I am deeply grateful to all my fans who have stood by me, cheered for me, and supported me through every victory and defeat. Your voices, passion, and love have always pushed me forward. Knowing that your support has been behind my success has given me strength. Each and every one of you holds a special place in my life.”

Emphasizing that his farewell marks not just an end but also a new beginning, Erden added:

I want to share my experiences and what I have learned from this sport with the next generation and guide young athletes. Though I am stepping away from the basketball court, my heart will always beat with the spirit of this game and with all of you. I am endlessly grateful for the privilege of sharing this extraordinary chapter of my life with you. Saying goodbye is hard, but the memories we created together will always live within me.
