US President Donald Trump has made unsubstantiated claims that $100 million worth of condoms were being sent to Hamas, despite a lack of supporting evidence.
In remarks made at the White House, Trump defended Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), suggesting that Musk had uncovered this alleged shipment of condoms intended for the militant group.
However, publicly available data contradicts this assertion. Records from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) show no such shipments of condoms to Gaza.
The only related shipment in recent years was a $45,680 supply of oral and injectable contraceptives, sent to Jordan in 2023 — the first shipment to the region since 2019.
The claim, which Trump referenced in multiple public statements, first surfaced with the president’s press secretary, who also suggested that $50 million worth of condoms were being sent to Gaza. These assertions have yet to be supported by any evidence or official data.
The remarks have sparked controversy and raised questions, particularly as no official confirmation of the alleged $100 million shipment has emerged. Experts familiar with U.S. foreign aid programs have expressed confusion, noting that USAID funding does not include allocations for condom shipments to Gaza.
This claim forms part of a broader narrative about President Trump’s efforts to curb what he describes as wasteful foreign spending. However, the allegations regarding the shipment of condoms to Hamas remain unsupported and appear to be based on misinformation.
