Panathinaikos defeats Fenerbahce Beko 74-63, securing its sixth consecutive home win in the EuroLeague

In a pivotal Turkish Airlines EuroLeague basketball game on Friday, Panathinaikos extended their winning streak at home to six games by defeating Türkiye’s Fenerbahce Beko 74-63.

The match, held at Athens’ OAKA Altion, showcased a strong performance by the home team, led by U.S. guard Kendrick Nunn, who scored 23 points, solidifying the Greens’ dominance in the game.

Mathias Lessort, another key player for Panathinaikos, contributed significantly with 13 points and eight rebounds, bolstering the team’s frontcourt effort. Fenerbahce found their top scorer in U.S. center Johnathan Motley, who managed to put up 16 points against the robust defense of Panathinaikos.

The game also saw Fenerbahce’s Tarik Biberovic and Nick Calathes each adding 12 points to their team’s effort, with guard Scottie Wilbekin chipping in another 10 points. Despite their efforts, Fenerbahce could not overcome the strategic play and defense of Panathinaikos.

With this win, Coach Ergin Ataman’s Panathinaikos team climbed to third in the EuroLeague standings, now boasting a record of 16 wins and 10 losses. Meanwhile, Fenerbahce slipped to seventh place, with their record moving to 15 wins and 11 losses after the defeat in the Greek capital.

Looking ahead, Panathinaikos is set to face a significant challenge as they visit the current leaders of the EuroLeague, Real Madrid, on Feb. 29. Real Madrid leads the 2023-24 regular season standings with an impressive 22 wins in 26 games, with their nearest rivals, Barcelona, securing 18 wins.

On the other side, Fenerbahce Beko is preparing to host the Spanish team Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz on March 1 in a Round 27 game, hoping to bounce back from their recent setback.
