Hamas releases names of 183 Palestinian prisoners to be freed in swap deal with Israel
Hamas on Friday released the names of 183 Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails who are slated to be freed Saturday as part of the ongoing cease-fire and prisoner swap deal with Israel.
In a statement, the Hamas-run Prisoners’ Information Office said those set for release include 18 serving life sentences, 54 serving long-term sentences, and 111 Palestinians from Gaza who were arrested after Oct. 7, 2023.
According to the statement, 54 of the prisoners set for release are members of Fatah, eight are affiliated with Hamas, two with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), and two with the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP).
Seven of the prisoners will be deported following their release from Israeli jails.
Since the cease-fire took effect on Jan. 19, Hamas has released 15 hostages, including three hostages to be freed on Saturday: Yarden Bibas, Keith Siegel, who holds U.S. citizenship, and Ofer Kalderon, who has French nationality, according to the Hostages and Missing Families Forum campaign group.
Since the truce began, Israel has freed hundreds of Palestinian prisoners, many of them women and minors.
