Jordan’s King Abdullah joins aerial humanitarian mission to Gaza, emphasizing kingdom’s push for easing aid restrictions amid ongoing conflict

Jordan’s King Abdullah took part in an aerial delivery of humanitarian assistance to Gaza, underscoring his country’s efforts to urge Israel to ease restrictions on aid efforts to address the dire health and food crises in the war-ravaged region, officials revealed Sunday.

A footage shared by the state-owned Al Mamlaka depicted the monarch in military attire aboard an aircraft during the latest mission conducted by the Jordanian Air Force to drop urgently needed medical supplies to field hospitals it operates in Gaza. According to official sources, the latest airdrop occurred on Tuesday.

Jordan has conducted 11 airdrops, at least two of which were conducted in collaboration with the French and Dutch air forces to deliver medical assistance.

Princess Salma, the second daughter of Abdullah and a trained Jordanian Air Force pilot, participated in an airdrop in December.

The king, a vocal advocate for ending Israel’s offensive, embarked on a tour of major Western capitals last Thursday. He is scheduled to meet with U.S. President Joe Biden in Washington on Monday to advocate for an immediate cease-fire.

During a visit to Amman last month, U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken praised Jordan’s “role and leadership in providing life-saving aid to Palestinian civilians in Gaza.”
