India’s 76th Republic Day was celebrated with a grand reception in Ankara, reflecting the deep-rooted diplomatic and historical ties between India and Türkiye.

Hosted by the Embassy of India in Ankara, the event took place at a prestigious hotel, bringing together Indian Ambassador to Türkiye Muktesh Pardeshi, Deputy Foreign Minister Ayse Berris Ekinci, foreign diplomats, and a large number of distinguished guests.

Celebrating shared history and cooperation

The event commenced with the national anthems of both countries, symbolizing the friendship between the two nations. Speaking at the reception, Ekinci expressed her pleasure in attending the celebration, emphasizing that Türkiye and India share a strong historical bond.

Highlighting the deep cultural exchanges between the peoples of both nations, she noted that centuries of interaction have even led to the emergence of similar words in their languages.

Ekinci also underscored India’s support for Türkiye in difficult times, recalling India’s swift assistance following the devastating earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaras on Feb. 6, 2023.

“Both Türkiye and India hold significant positions on the global stage, striving to strengthen bilateral relations while promoting peace and prosperity,” she stated. “We are committed to further enhancing our partnership in all aspects.”

Expanding economic and strategic collaboration

Ekinci pointed to the vast potential for collaboration between the two countries in various sectors, including infrastructure development, tourism, civil aviation, space research, and health care. She encouraged further steps to capitalize on these opportunities for mutual benefit.

Ambassador Pardeshi took the stage to highlight the significance of India’s Republic Day, marking the adoption of the country’s constitution in 1950 following its independence in 1947.

“Today, we celebrate our collective achievements as a nation—one that embraces diverse religions, languages, and cultures while maintaining unity,” Pardeshi remarked. “With a population of 1.4 billion, India stands as the world’s largest, most dynamic, and successful democracy.”

Pardeshi also underlined India’s growing economic and diplomatic presence, stating, “As the world’s fifth-largest economy, we aspire to be a reliable partner in addressing global challenges and remain a responsible member of the international community.”

Trade between Türkiye and India reaches $10 billion

Discussing bilateral ties, Pardeshi noted Türkiye’s increasing influence in both regional and global affairs. He emphasized that relations between India and Türkiye have flourished over the years, with a strong commitment to further strengthening economic ties.

“Trade between India and Türkiye has seen significant growth, reaching approximately $10 billion,” he revealed, expressing optimism for even greater economic cooperation in the coming years.
