9 Daesh terrorists planning attack detained in Istanbul
Turkish security forces detained nine suspects in Istanbul during a counterterrorism operation targeting the Daesh terrorist group, authorities announced on Thursday.
Investigation unveils potential threat
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office Terror Crimes Investigation Bureau initiated the operation as part of an ongoing investigation to uncover Daesh’s activities in Türkiye.
Authorities assessed that the suspects may have been planning attacks targeting the country. Following the issuance of detention warrants, the Istanbul Police Department’s Counterterrorism Unit conducted coordinated raids, apprehending all nine suspects.
Legal proceedings and deportations
Officials confirmed that legal proceedings for the suspects are ongoing. Of the nine individuals, three are expected to be deported, pending further evaluation of their status.
