Orlando Magic announces basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal’s retirement

In a poignant ceremony on Tuesday, the Orlando Magic announced the retirement of NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal’s No. 32 jersey, honoring his impactful contributions to the franchise during his four-year tenure.

This marks the third time an NBA team has retired Shaquille O’Neal’s jersey, following the Los Angeles Lakers and the Miami Heat. Shaquille O’Neal, now 51, played for the Orlando Magic from 1992 to 1996, laying the foundation for his illustrious Hall-of-Fame career.

The Magic, celebrating their 35th NBA season, selected O’Neal as the No. 1 overall pick in the 1992 NBA Draft. During his time with Orlando, O’Neal showcased his dominance on the court, averaging an impressive 27.2 points, 12.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 2.8 blocks per game in 295 regular-season appearances.

Following his stint with the Magic, O’Neal achieved even greater success in the NBA. He won four NBA titles, including three consecutive championships with the Los Angeles Lakers from 2000 to 2002 and one with the Miami Heat in 2006.
