Mohammad Mokhber becomes Iran’s interim president following Raisi’s death
This incident weighs heavily on the state and the country, but there will be no vacuum in the administration, says Mokhber
Following the tragic demise of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, his first deputy, Mohammad Mokhber, assumed the interim presidency of the country on Monday.
Describing the incident as “profoundly grave,” Mokhber said: “This incident weighs heavily on the state and the country.”
Underlining that despite the challenging circumstances, the administration will not tolerate a vacuum, Mokhber stated: “Under the guidance of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, there will be no vacuum in the administration; the people can rest assured of this.”
As per the Iranian Constitution, a committee comprising the speaker of the Majlis, the head of the judiciary, and the first vice president is tasked with arranging the election of a new president within a maximum period of 50 days.
Presidents in Iran are elected by the populace among candidates endorsed by the Constitutional Guardian Council.
