Azerbaijan and Georgia signed a series of agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral ties during the 10th meeting of the Azerbaijan-Georgia Intergovernmental Economic Cooperation Commission held in Baku on Friday.

The meeting, co-chaired by Azerbaijan’s Prime Minister Ali Asadov and Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, marked a significant step in fostering cooperation in consular affairs, maritime transportation, and environmental initiatives.

Prime Minister Asadov congratulated Kobakhidze on his reappointment and emphasized the importance of advancing relations with Georgia, describing it as a priority of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy. “The strategic partnership between our countries has reached a qualitatively new level,” Asadov said.

Azerbaijan highlights joint projects with Türkiye, Georgia

Asadov highlighted Georgia’s status as one of Azerbaijan’s primary trade partners and underscored Azerbaijan’s role as the largest investor in Georgia.

He also pointed to the transformative impact of joint projects with Georgia and Türkiye on the region’s energy and transportation networks.

Prime Minister Kobakhidze echoed these sentiments, recognizing Azerbaijan as one of Georgia’s most important strategic allies. “We attach great importance to the Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Georgia trilateral cooperation format,” he noted, reaffirming Georgia’s commitment to leveraging its capabilities to foster regional cooperation.

Kobakhidze also proposed a trilateral collaboration framework among the South Caucasus nations—Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Armenia—to advance practical steps and enhance cooperation in the region.

Following the discussions, Asadov and Kobakhidze signed a protocol formalizing the outcomes of the commission’s 10th meeting. Additionally, memorandums of understanding on consular and maritime collaboration, as well as a letter of intent on environmental cooperation, were signed by relevant ministries of both countries.
