A 5.4 magnitude earthquake rattled central Peru, emanating from Huaral with a depth of 57 kilometers

A 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck central Peru, the Geophysical Institute of Peru said Thursday.

As reported by the Geophysical Institute of Peru, a seismic event measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale shook central Peru, with its epicenter in the town of Huaral.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 57 kilometers (35 miles), triggering concerns due to Peru’s vulnerability to seismic activity as part of the Pacific Earthquake Zone, commonly called the Pacific Ring of Fire.

Fortunately, no casualties or material damage have been reported.

Peru, known for its frequent seismic movements, experienced a tragic event in 2007 when a 7.9 magnitude earthquake claimed the lives of at least 595 people.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure public safety.
