President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reaffirmed that there will be no pardon or house arrest for PKK/YPG ringleader Abdullah Ocalan, dismissing recent rumors about potential leniency.

Speaking during a meeting with ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) lawmakers, Erdogan made it clear that Ocalan’s current status would not change.

‘No pardon, no house arrest’

President Erdogan addressed the speculation surrounding Ocalan during the meeting, stating, “There is no such thing as house arrest or any similar arrangement. The individual in question does not even wish to leave. These rumors have no basis. There will be no pardon for the baby killer.”

He further instructed Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc to ensure the public is informed about this stance.

Targeting ‘terror-free Türkiye’

During the discussion, President Erdogan emphasized his government’s goal of eliminating terrorism entirely by 2025.

“We aim to eradicate terrorism in all its forms and dimensions, permanently consigning it to history,” he said. Erdogan also highlighted the importance of disbanding terrorist organizations not only in Türkiye but also in Iraq and Syria, calling for the unconditional surrender of their weapons.

Mixed reactions from lawmakers

Lawmakers voiced both support and concerns during the meeting, with representatives from southeastern regions describing a renewed sense of optimism and support among their constituents for the government’s efforts.

Erdogan noted that maintaining the sensitivities of families affected by terrorism remains a priority. “We will not allow anything that could disturb the families of our martyrs and veterans,” he said.
