Romanian citizens can enter Türkiye without a visa
Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu is arriving in Ankara today as a guest of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, with a Presidential Decree published in the Official Gazette ahead of the visit announcing visa-free travel for Romanian citizens entering Turkiye.
President Erdogan will officially welcome Prime Minister Ciolacu with a ceremony at the Presidential Complex. The first meeting of the Romania-Türkiye High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council will follow bilateral and inter-delegation meetings. Afterwards, the two leaders will participate in a signing ceremony for agreements and hold a joint press conference. The visit will coincide with the rollout of visa-free travel for Romanian citizens entering Turkiye.
The Presidential Decree concerning this issue was published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Türkiye and is now in effect. The decree states: “Romanian citizens holding a national identity card are granted visa exemption for their touristic travels and transit passages to Türkiye with a maximum stay of 90 days within any 180-day period, as per Article 18 of Law No. 6458 on Foreigners and International Protection.”
Turkish as an elective course
Yesterday, Yunus Emre Institute President Seref Ates announced that Turkish will be offered as an elective language course in Romanian public schools under the “My Choice is Turkish Project.” Ates stated, “Considering Romania’s geographical proximity, cultural similarities, and strategic partnerships, the My Choice is Turkish Project is of great importance. Romanian state schools offer Turkish as an elective course from the first grade to the end of high school.
