Astroscale observation satellite takes off with Rocket Lab rocket

Astroscale achieved successful milestone with the launch of its observation satellite from New Zealand

Over the weekend, Astroscale’s observation satellite was successfully launched from New Zealand aboard a Rocket Lab rocket.

The “ADRAS-J” satellite, equipped for this purpose, will approach the remaining part of the “H2A No. 15” rocket to observe its movement, assess potential damage, and gather valuable data on space debris conditions.

The satellite is a cuboid-shaped spacecraft weighing 150 kilograms (330.69 pounds) and measuring approximately 80 centimeters (31.5 inches) in width and 1.2 meters (3.94 feet) in height.

In contrast, the rocket part under scrutiny extends to roughly 11 meters in length, has a diameter of 4 meters, and weighs a substantial 3 tons.

Astroscale was founded in 2013 by Okada Nobu, a former Japanese Ministry of Finance bureaucrat.
