The widow of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny vows to continue his fight against the Kremlin, while authorities deny access to his body, sparking allegations of a cover-up

On Monday, the widow of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny pledged to continue his battle against the Kremlin, as authorities barred his mother from visiting the morgue where his body is reportedly held following his recent death in an Arctic penal colony.

In a social media video marked by moments of emotional strain, Yulia Navalnaya accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of being responsible for her husband’s demise in the remote prison. She alleged that officials’ refusal to release Navalny’s body to his mother was part of a concealment effort.

Russian authorities stated that the cause of Navalny’s death at the age of 47 on Friday remains undisclosed, a factor likely to provoke skepticism internationally. Numerous Western leaders have already implicated Putin in Navalny’s demise.

Navalnaya called upon Russians to stand together in solidarity, urging them to share in her anguish and anger.

Meanwhile, Ivan Zhdanov, director of Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation, disclosed that Navalny’s body would be withheld from his mother for 14 days for a chemical examination, as reported by a Russian investigator.
