Türkiye’s National Library welcomes over 5M visitors in 4 years
Türkiye National Library offers a sprawling expanse of knowledge, culture, and innovation across its vast halls and shelves, inviting the world to explore its riches
Türkiye’s National Library, inaugurated in 2020 with a ceremony hosted by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and attended by the President of Uzbekistan Shevket Mirziyoyev along with 2,500 academics, scientists and guests from the culture and arts community, has hosted over 5 million visitors in the fours years since its establishment.
With an indoor area spanning 125,000 square meters (1.35 million square feet), shelves stretching over 201 kilometers (125 miles) and a seating capacity of 5,500 people, the library is described as the nation’s “window of life” showcasing its architectural structure, rich collection, culture and art zones, and state-of-the-art technological facilities to the world.
The library operates as a dynamic hub for readers and visitors of all ages and backgrounds, catering to diverse educational and cultural needs around the clock. Beyond its vast information resources and services, it functions as a vibrant center for culture and art, embodying a contemporary approach to librarianship.
The library’s collection includes over 2 million printed books, 2.2 million periodicals from 14,300 journals and 4.2 million printed resources in total.
The library also offers access to 750,000 e-books, 7 million e-theses, 64 databases and more than 300 million articles, reports and similar content from 120,000 e-journals.
Last year alone, the library hosted 32 meetings, drawing 4,853 people. Additionally, it organized 413 events in Education and Technology Workshops, attracting 3,175 attendees. Over the span of four years, the library has curated a grand total of 1,000 events.
