Wildfire breaks out in Cankiri’s Ilgaz district, villages evacuated

Firefighters are battling a wildfire that broke out in the forested area of the Yukarimeydan village in Cankiri’s Ilgaz district.

Upon receiving reports of the blaze, fire crews from the municipalities of Kastamonu, Cankiri, Kursunlu, Ilgaz, and Atkaracalar were dispatched to the scene. Additionally, water tankers from the Forestry Operations Directorate were mobilized to aid in the firefighting efforts.

Strong winds have exacerbated the situation, causing the fire to spread rapidly. Helicopters have now been deployed to assist with aerial firefighting.

As a precautionary measure, homes in the nearby villages of Yukarimeydan, Asagimeydan, Asagidere, and Yukaridere have been evacuated. Efforts to bring the fire under control are ongoing.
